Installing the New Unanet Software

Now you will be installing a new version of the Unanet Software obtained in Step 1.  The steps here are similar to your original install, but since you already have all the supporting components in place (i.e., Database, Servlet Engine, etc.), it will be much easier.

The topics covered on this page include:

Installing the Unanet Software

Stop! - Make sure you have saved a copy of your existing property files in a safe location before proceeding -- as you will need to restore them to the /config directory after this installation step.

Double-click on the unanet103-install.exe (for Windows) or run the (for Unix/Linux) installer file that you downloaded above.  This will begin the installation process.  Follow the instructions to install the Unanet files on your server.  By default, your software will be installed at c:\unanet (for Windows) or $HOME/unanet (for Unix/Linux), but you can change this to any location you desire, provided it has enough disk space to hold the files.

If you are experiencing difficulty running the installer package, you can also download a unanet103 .zip or unanet103 .tar.gz version also available on the Support Download site under the "Packaged Release Files" section.   You can unzip / unpack the files to any location you desire, provided it has enough disk space to hold them.

Note:  If you install Unanet in the exact same location, you will not have to change any of your Servlet Engine configuration settings.  Unless you need to move your Unanet installation, it is recommended that you install it in the same place.

Restoring your Unanet Configuration / Properties

Once you have installed the new version of Unanet, you will need to restore the Unanet configuration files you backed up in Step 2.  Simply replace the files in the new Unanet config directory (by default, c:\unanet\config) with the files that you backed up, with the exception of the unanet.dtd  file.

If you are running Tomcat, you will also need to restore the c:/unanet/unanet.xml file you backed up in Step 2.

Note that when restoring these files, you will not want to overlay the new unanet.dtd that is packaged with the new version of the software.   All other files in your config directory should be updated with the versions that you backed up.

Step 5 -- Migrate your Unanet Database

Now that the Unanet Software has been migrated to the new version, you'll need to migrate your Unanet database as well.  The directions differ depending on the database your installation uses, so please choose the appropriate link below to continue:
